Spend day 1 on foot between Mandalay Bay and the LINQ, reaching Bellagio for 8pm, when the fountains switch to every 15 minutes. Give day 2 to the desert: a Grand Canyon West tour with the Skywalk, a Hoover Dam half day with Red Rock or Valley of Fire, or a 2.5-hour helicopter landing at the canyon. On day 3, do the north Strip, then ride the Deuce bus Downtown for the Mob Museum, the Neon Museum and Fremont Street's canopy shows, on the hour from 6pm to 2am. Book the Neon Museum and the desert tour before you fly.

Why this order works

I'd put the desert on day 2 because it splits two long walking days: about 2.5 miles of Boulevard on day 1 by the legs below, and the Venetian to Downtown on day 3. The early pickup is also easier after one night than after three.

Getting from the Boulevard to a casino floor adds 5 to 10 minutes or more at the big resorts. The legs this plan uses:

WalkMilesMinutesDay
Mandalay Bay to Luxor0.3361
Luxor to Excalibur0.2551
Excalibur to MGM Grand0.3471
MGM Grand to Bellagio0.89171
Bellagio to Caesars Palace (bridge over Flamingo Rd)0.4691
Caesars Palace to the LINQ Promenade0.2241
Venetian to Wynn0.59113
Wynn to SAHARA1.26243 (or take the Deuce)
The STRAT to Fremont Street1.90363 (take the Deuce)

Measured on the Las Vegas Blvd sidewalk with Valhalla pedestrian routing at about 3.2 mph. Heat, crowds and bridge escalators make real times longer.

For a center-Strip base, the where to stay guide compares the hotels between Park MGM and the LINQ with their resort fees and parking. Hours, prices and schedules on this page come from each venue's own site, the Bureau of Reclamation, RTC and the Las Vegas Monorail, checked October 17, 2026.

Day 1: south and center Strip on foot

Start at the south end in the late morning and walk north, to reach Bellagio when the fountains run most often.

Late morning: Mandalay Bay to MGM Grand

The Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign is about 12 minutes' walk south of Mandalay Bay, and the Deuce stops there. Shark Reef Aquarium inside Mandalay Bay opens at 10am. From there it's 18 minutes of walking past Luxor and Excalibur to MGM Grand.

Afternoon: Bellagio Conservatory and the first fountains

MGM Grand to Bellagio is the longest leg of the day, 0.89 miles. Inside, the Conservatory is to the right of the front desk; its fall Harvest display runs through November 7, 2026, and by long-standing practice there is no ticket. The fountains run every 30 minutes from 3pm on weekdays and from noon on weekends, so catch one daytime show and come back after dark.

Late afternoon: Caesars, the Flamingo and the High Roller

Bellagio to Caesars Palace is 0.46 miles, not the 0.24 it looks, because you cross Flamingo Road by bridge. The Flamingo Wildlife Habitat is free and closes at 8pm. At the LINQ, the High Roller takes 30 minutes to go round once; the box-office daytime ticket ($23.50, noon to 5:59pm) is $11.25 less than the anytime one, both plus taxes and fees. I'd ride before 6pm and keep the evening for the fountains, or take the 21+ Happy Half Hour with the open bar if you want the night view. It is closed to the public Tuesday, October 27, 2026, 4pm to 7:30pm.

Evening: the fountains and a show

From 8pm to midnight the fountains go off every 15 minutes, every night of the week; Bellagio's schedule has no 1am show on weekends. Across the street, the Eiffel Tower at Paris lights up every 30 minutes from sunset to midnight, and its deck is open until midnight.

For a show, the things to do guide has all four Cirque du Soleil shows with their dark nights. On a Monday or Tuesday "O" at Bellagio is dark and KÀ at MGM Grand plays. After an early curtain you come out to fountains every 15 minutes; before a late one, watch a couple at 8.

Day 2: the desert day

All but the helicopter pick up at Strip hotels. Grand Canyon West, on the Hualapai Reservation, is about 127 miles away, 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes each way with no stops. Hoover Dam is about 45 minutes, Red Rock's scenic drive about 35 and Valley of Fire about 70.

Prices and ratings from GetYourGuide, October 2026; checkout shows the current price. Inclusions read from each tour's live listing on October 17, 2026.

Version A: the Grand Canyon by coach or van

This is the full day. The small-group tour (12 people at most) picks up from a list of 113 hotels and includes the Skywalk pass, breakfast, a picnic lunch, a guided walk over Hoover Dam and a stop in a Joshua tree forest, in about 12 hours. Grand Canyon West is Hualapai land, not the national park, so overseas visitors don't pay the Park Service's $100 nonresident fee there.

The most-reviewed coach costs less and gives about 3.5 hours at the canyon, but the "Hoover Dam" in its title is a photo stop, and lunch and the Skywalk are options you pick at booking. The catch with both: operators schedule about 3.5 hours each way with stops. The Grand Canyon tours guide compares the West Rim with the South Rim, and the Skywalk guide covers the passes.

Version B: Hoover Dam, then Red Rock or Valley of Fire

The cheapest tour that goes inside the dam is the one with lunch: it includes the Bureau of Reclamation's 30-minute Power Plant Tour, in 5.5 hours with hotel pickup. The three-hour small-group tour stays outside, on the bypass bridge, a Lake Mead overlook and the top of the dam. No tour company sells the full $40 Dam Tour; the Hoover Dam tours guide explains why.

For the afternoon, Red Rock is closer. From October 1 to May 31, its 13-mile scenic drive needs a Recreation.gov timed-entry reservation for entry between 8am and 5pm, and the drive closes at 7pm in October. Valley of Fire's West Entrance off I-15 is closed Monday to Thursday through the end of 2026, so weekday visitors go round by the East Entrance. One tour covers both parks in eight hours; the day trips guide has the rest.

Version C: half a day by helicopter

The Skywalk Express flight lands at Grand Canyon West and includes Skywalk VIP admission, in about 2.5 hours from takeoff to return with about 45 minutes on the ground. Hotel pickup isn't included: you get yourself to Maverick's heliport at 6075 S Las Vegas Blvd and check in 45 minutes before. It needs at least four passengers to fly, and anyone 18 or over needs a Real ID or passport. The downside is the price for 45 minutes at the rim. The helicopter tours guide has the other flights.

Day 3: north Strip and Downtown

Late morning on the north Strip, then the afternoon and night Downtown, where rooms ran about half the Strip rate in 2025 ($97.98 a night against $196.54, by the LVCVA's count).

Late morning: the Venetian and Wynn

Walking the Venetian's indoor Grand Canal Shoppes costs nothing; the gondola is $39 per person, and the outdoor gondolas close for the season from October 26, 2026. Wynn is 11 minutes on. For a seated break, Sphere's The Wizard of Oz runs about 75 minutes, several times a day; the things to do guide has the details.

Afternoon: the Deuce north to the STRAT

The Monorail ends at SAHARA, so take the Deuce Downtown: it runs 24 hours up Las Vegas Blvd to a stop at the Fremont Street Experience. The $20 three-day pass costs less than the Monorail's $30.85 three-day eTicket (plan your trip has every fare). If you stop at the STRAT on the way, the deck opens at 10am Thursday to Sunday but not until 4pm on Tuesday and Wednesday, when the thrill rides are closed. I'd stay on the Deuce for the last 1.9 miles to Fremont Street; there is little to stop for.

Late afternoon: the Mob Museum

The Mob Museum, at 300 Stewart Ave just off Fremont Street, is open 9am to 9pm daily; allow 1.5 to 3 hours. General admission is $37.95 at the museum and $35 on GetYourGuide, and it includes The Underground, the speakeasy in the basement.

Evening: the Neon Museum and Fremont Street

Book the Neon Museum ahead. Evening admission (6 to 11pm) is from $35 in 2026, and on Saturday, October 17, 2026, the museum's own site showed that day as "Sold Out!" The things to do guide has its hours.

Then Fremont Street, where The Canopy shows its free Music Reels and Fremont Films at the top of every hour from 6pm to 2am. The guided Fremont Street walking tour takes about two hours, from the Plaza Hotel to Downtown Container Park. If day 3 is a first Friday, the Arts District's free First Friday art walk runs that evening (5pm to 11pm in October); November 6 and December 4 are likely but weren't posted on October 17.

If you book only one thing before you fly

Book the day-2 tour. The Strip needs no booking, and the desert tour fixes the shape of the other two days. Then book the Neon Museum for the evening of day 3.

If you have 2 days (a weekend)

Keep day 1. On day 2, do a short desert morning (the three-hour Hoover Dam tour or the helicopter), the Venetian and Wynn in the afternoon, and Fremont Street in the evening. I'd pick the Neon Museum or the desert morning, not both. Book rooms early: 2025 occupancy was 88.8% on weekends against 76.6% midweek.

If you have 4 days

Add a second day trip. Zion's south entrance at Springdale is 164 miles away, about 2 hours 40 minutes with no stops, and Utah is always one hour ahead of Las Vegas. Since 2026, non-US residents aged 16 and over pay an extra $100 each at Zion, Bryce Canyon and the Grand Canyon's national park rims, and the Zion tours below don't include it. The Zion small-group tour includes park entry, lunch and 90 minutes on the Canyon Overlook Trail in 12 hours.

Antelope Canyon is the long version: Page, Arizona is about 4.5 hours each way with no stops, and the combined Grand Canyon and Antelope tour runs 17 hours. The Antelope Canyon guide explains the clock trap near Page.

With no second trip, spend the extra evening on a second Cirque show or the free shows you missed.

Seasonal adjustments

June to September

Do the desert first thing and keep midday for the pool or indoors. July averages 25.8 days at 100°F or more, with nights near 82°F. Valley of Fire's main trails, White Domes and Fire Wave among them, close May 15 to September 30. The Neon Museum moves to 8pm to midnight in June, July and August.

November to mid-March

Grand Canyon West runs on Arizona time, one hour ahead of Las Vegas from November 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027, so its 4:30pm winter last entry is 3:30pm on a Las Vegas phone. Red Rock's scenic drive closes at 5pm from November to February. Valley of Fire is shut December 1 to 14, the Bellagio Conservatory is dark November 8 to 13 and January 3 to 8, and Hoover Dam's visitor center and tours close on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

Formula 1 week (November 19 to 21, 2026)

The Las Vegas Grand Prix runs practice on Thursday, November 19, qualifying on Friday the 20th and the race at 8pm on Saturday the 21st. In 2025, Clark County closed the circuit roads from 1pm on the last three days and reopened them around 12:30 to 3am; expect a similar pattern in 2026. Walk or ride the Monorail, which runs nonstop from 7am on Tuesday, November 17 to 3am on Monday, November 23. The Eiffel Tower deck is limited to set hours on all three days, and some day tours limit pickups to Excalibur, Park MGM and Treasure Island from November 18 to 22.

Common questions

Is 3 days enough for Las Vegas?

Yes for the Strip, Downtown and one desert day. A second long trip such as Zion or Antelope Canyon needs a fourth day.

Can you walk the whole Las Vegas Strip?

You can, but Mandalay Bay to the STRAT is about 4.3 miles, about 1 hour 20 minutes on the sidewalk before any time inside a resort. Walk half the Strip a day and take the Deuce bus for the rest.

How do you get from the Strip to Fremont Street?

Take the RTC Deuce, which runs 24 hours to a stop at the Fremont Street Experience. Visitors pay $6 for 2 hours, $8 for 24 hours or $20 for 3 days. The Monorail does not go Downtown.

How long is a Grand Canyon day trip from Las Vegas?

A coach or van tour to Grand Canyon West takes 11 to 12 hours, with about 3 to 4 hours at the rim. A South Rim bus day is about 14 hours.

What should I book before a 3-day Las Vegas trip?

The Neon Museum, your day-2 desert tour, any Cirque du Soleil or Sphere show, and Red Rock Canyon's timed entry if you drive there between 8am and 5pm from October 1 to May 31. Hoover Dam's full Dam Tour can't be booked; it is sold only at the dam.

Does the Arizona time change affect a Las Vegas itinerary?

Only from November 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027, when Arizona is one hour ahead of Las Vegas; the rest of the year the clocks match. The Bureau of Reclamation gives Hoover Dam's hours in Pacific time.
